My life is Pacman…

This is true for multiple reasons in Cambodia. Not just because most Cambodians are terrified of Ghosts, but also because everything seems to be a maze. And most days I hope and convince myself that I can get a new life when I fail at life essentials (i.e. eating, speaking.) This idea came up as Hannah and I were once again traversing across rice patties in search of the Pagoda on bikes. However we happened to have taken the wrong road and were stuck in the middle of the field, only to see the Pagoda in the distance but without a connecting road. We were forced to turn back on the same road, passing many different Chinese-style graves. (Like small temples randomly spread out near the Pagoda) In addition to this, life in Cambodia is like Pacman at the market. There aren’t any ghosts. But an array of things that are avoided at all costs 1. Any location that sells fish (dried or alive): imagine the fishiest smell you have created in a kitchen, times that by 10 then add 7 live catfish wiggling around on essentially the ground. 2. Any location that sells meat: on the average day I walk by at least 3 pig heads just chilling by large slabs of raw meat and by legs hanging from hooks in the top of the stalls. (I’m just guessing FDA would not give them an “A” rating) Another aspect of this town that seems like this game is the road I maneuver through to get to school- all I can say if you gave this town a steamroller and some asphalt, it could definitely benefit nicely.

About followingdreams

I have recently graduated from UCSD with a bachelor of arts in International Studies: History and Political Science. I embarked on a 27 month journey (a.k.a. 2 years and 3 months, a.k.a. 2 missed Chirstmas' and Thanksgivings, a.k.a. missing nephew's first and second birthday...) with Peace Corps to teach English in Cambodia, or at least that is what I have been told. And struggled through 6 months of life in rural Cambodia, Peace Corps, life across the globe. This blog captured a snapshot of that adventure in a way that hopefully enticed you to laugh at the trials! Please email me updates on your life and questions you may have as well, inquires about catering gigs. I would love to hear where life has taken you, because the road I have traveled has been quite the unexpected one. And would love to journey along side you in this crazy thing we called life.
