Some pictures…

This photo was taken on a stroll that Hannah and I took to the Wat, or Pagoda by western lingo. The journey out to the Wat was enough to get me hooked on this country! This is also from my training village.

This is an amazing sunrise I witnessed one morning at 5 am.. I believe the real reason I was awake that early had 1 to do with my grandpa’s chanting at 4 am and 2 that I had to wash my clothes which now takes about an hour!

This is from the bus to Battambang, my new home town — which I have already spelled wrong in a previous post. However this shot was taken closer to my training village just outside of Phnom Penh by 2 hrs. This is what the countryside more or less looks like around here. And its amazing to see palm trees in their natural habitat for once.

This is a shot from the bus again. However closer to Battambang. Tomorrow I will be seeing what my actual town looks and meeting the family. But this is my first impression and I’m liking what I see. It’s hard to tell but there are mountains in the distance. And I think there are more mountains by my permanent site in Sdau, Rattanak Mondul, Battambang, Cambodia -to be specific.

What has sold me on this city!! A frosted glass and a cold beer…without ice. What more could you ask for? And the beer stayed cold the entire time. Plus it was an excellent pair with the breaded prawns and french fries I had for dinner. I’m soaking up the western food while I can.

And this is to prove I am still alive and healthy. I think my host mom prides herself on how much rice I can consume or that she can force me to consume. However she did buy me the snazzy shirt I’m wearing, so she must love me. Also the other girl is Hannah who was in the bike riding photo. We are besties in the training village.

Hopefully soon I can upload some more photos from my training site (need to take them first) and also some more from my permanent site that I am visiting tomorrow for the first time.

Big day tomorrow with the meet & greet with the host family and over night at their house!!

About followingdreams

I have recently graduated from UCSD with a bachelor of arts in International Studies: History and Political Science. I embarked on a 27 month journey (a.k.a. 2 years and 3 months, a.k.a. 2 missed Chirstmas' and Thanksgivings, a.k.a. missing nephew's first and second birthday...) with Peace Corps to teach English in Cambodia, or at least that is what I have been told. And struggled through 6 months of life in rural Cambodia, Peace Corps, life across the globe. This blog captured a snapshot of that adventure in a way that hopefully enticed you to laugh at the trials! Please email me updates on your life and questions you may have as well, inquires about catering gigs. I would love to hear where life has taken you, because the road I have traveled has been quite the unexpected one. And would love to journey along side you in this crazy thing we called life.
