the plan…

Hello Readers,

Blog post have been more frequent due to the available internet. We have been staying in hotels since we arrived, and they all have internet. On Tuesday we enter “real Cambodia” and live with host families and lose our western ties… besides the cell phone I am supposed to always carry, and remember to charge. Email me if you are dying to call me and I can send you the number.

So life so far has been the hottest I have ever experienced and this is only day 2 for me. This morning I woke up and literally just wanted to jump in a cold shower or pool. And its currently 7 pm and I feel the same way dripping with sweat.

Accomplishments: mastered the squatty potty- quite tricky for the ignorant folk, learned the standard greetings and the names of the amazing fruits in Khmer and have successfully ordered breakfast, ate a cricket – yes a whole fried cricket- head and legs and all, figured out how to tell my host family that I can’t eat meat with bones.

Unsuccessful achievements: not sweating profusely always- literally have beads of sweat dripping off my face 24/7, mastering the shower at the hotel- the entire bathroom was covered in water

And a little about what lies in the future… Tomorrow we are headed to the market to pick up some khmer essentials, like the traditional skirt and korma, a chamber pot, and exchanging ATM 20s for useable size money in Cambodian currency. And it is our one day to RELAX!! On Tuesday when we move to the village and begin living with the family, also the 4 hrs of language training a day will begin.

…sorry to end this mid thought but I have become to hot to actually process.

until next time

About followingdreams

I have recently graduated from UCSD with a bachelor of arts in International Studies: History and Political Science. I embarked on a 27 month journey (a.k.a. 2 years and 3 months, a.k.a. 2 missed Chirstmas' and Thanksgivings, a.k.a. missing nephew's first and second birthday...) with Peace Corps to teach English in Cambodia, or at least that is what I have been told. And struggled through 6 months of life in rural Cambodia, Peace Corps, life across the globe. This blog captured a snapshot of that adventure in a way that hopefully enticed you to laugh at the trials! Please email me updates on your life and questions you may have as well, inquires about catering gigs. I would love to hear where life has taken you, because the road I have traveled has been quite the unexpected one. And would love to journey along side you in this crazy thing we called life.

I totally know what you are talking about! When I taught English in Taiwan the bathroom was the hardest issue for me, well the squatty potty was challenging too. But I would bring my clothes in with me to change after my shower and by the end, my clothes were sopping wet! My prayers are with you. And if you are able to, send us your address so we can mail you some care packages. Much love and blessings to you!
